Open Gradebooks

Our grading philosophy has always emphasized ongoing commentary on the day-to-day efforts of students. In prioritizing the day-to-day efforts of students, we want to promote the intellectual virtues which are buttressed by habit. Similarly, we want students to gain knowledge over time by disciplined study and good-willed conversation. We believe clear and accessible feedback throughout a grading term will empower parents to encourage their children toward these goals, as they deem appropriate. We also hope open gradebooks will make it easier for students, parents, and teachers to have honest and edifying conversations with each other.
