Symposium Day
Each year, at the start of the second semester, students and faculty read and annotate a shared literary work, and then come together for a series of discussions and activities called Symposium Day.
For Symposium Day 2020, middle school students will read George MacDonald’s short story, “Photogen and Nycteris” (downloadable PDF version here). High school students will read Kafka’s Metamorphosis (available for purchase here or anywhere using ISBN 978-1557427663). Students are asked to read carefully, annotate, and prepare their thoughts on the text before Symposium Day.
After winter break, on Symposium Day, January 13 (12:30pm release), students will break out from their usual class sections into groups from different grade levels, organized by middle school and high school. These groups will participate in workshops and seminars on the readings assigned.
